Sulayman Chappelle was born on February 11, 1967, in Washington, D.C. He is an American comedian, actor and writer. Sulayman Chappelle has appeared in several television shows and movies, most notably “The Larry Sanders Show” and “Half Baked”. In 2002 he was awarded a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album for his work on the album “The Unorthodox Jukebox”. Sulayman Chappelle has also written several books including “Uncle Tom’s Pub: And Other Stories from the Life of Stand-Up Comedy” (2013) and “Don’t Cry Baby: A Memoir” (2017). As a child, Sulayman showed an interest in comedy and began performing at open mic nights. After dropping out of college, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in stand-up comedy.

The following year he released his second comedy album, “Killin’ Them Softly”.

Sulayman Chappelle (born September 3, 1971) is an American comedian and actor. He is the creator, writer and star of the critically acclaimed HBO series Chappelle’s Show, which aired from 2003 to 2006.

Chappelle was born in Brooklyn, New York City. His father, Richard Earl Chappelle (1937-2004), was a Pentecostal preacher and asbestos worker; his mother, Barbara Ann (née Smith; 1937-2005), was a welfare recipient and bus driver. Chappelle has three sisters: Erna Faye (“Nina”) (born 1963), Yvonne Chappelle (born 1966), and Deborah “Debbie” Lynn (“Dede”) (born 1968).
